Matze vom Jura-Grund
Matze made the long trip across the big pond in March of 2017. He had been born and tested in Germany by Ludwig Stegmaier, and by very fortunate circumstances, was able to come to the United States to become part of our breeding program. When our Breed Warden and good friend Cal Bambrough was in Germany for GNA business in the spring of 2017, he was at the home of the breeder. The breeder, Jürgen Böttcher, mentioned to Cal that there was a very nice male dog from his kennel not far from his home, and that he thought Cal should see him. Cal went to his home and spent some time observing Matze and talking with his owners. He was very impressed with Matze, and thought he would make a great addition to GNA. Shortly after returning home, Cal notified me of his possible availability, and put me in contact with Ludwig. With the help from Silke Meinl, and Ludwig's wife Nicole, we made the final arrangements to bring Matze here. It was very nerve racking waiting the 2 days for Matze to arrive. When he finally got here, I was more than impressed! This dog was incredibly nice and well behaved in a totally new and strange environment where he didn't know me from Adam. He adapted quickly to his new home, and it didn't take long to transition his German commands to English commands.
Matze is a big male that was used mostly to hunt boar, rabbit and deer while in Germany. I am primarily a bird hunter, and he has adapted well to my hunting style. He still loves tracking rabbits and deer, but I think he enjoys the birds just as much. He really impressed me this fall with his ability to crash the phragmites and retrieve downed waterfowl. He covers ground well, and has not been bothered by the steep country of chukar land. He will continue to learn and grow with my feathered game obsession, and we are incredibly lucky to have him here.
Pedigree. Test Scores.
